Starter MailleStarter Maille
This style of Maille is for those of you who do not need to be period specific or keep to stringent group standards. Butted maille has no historical provonance except in the middle and far eastern styles.
Many groups who's kit standards include Maille will accept this style as a starter and will allow you on the field, but if you have any doubts you must in the first instance consult your 'Master at Arms'.
The construction of this style of Maille is in the 4 in 1 pattern and is of Spring Steel wire 1.6mm in diameter, i.e. 16 gauge and wound to produce rings that are 8mm internal diameter.
A high quallity spring steel chainmail to get you started.
Starter Riveted MailleStarter Riveted Maille
This style of Maille is for those of you who demand the added authenticity of Riveted maille but again do not need to be period specific or keep to stringent group standards. This is the best quallity round section riveted chainmail available.
Many groups who's kit standards include Maille will accept this style of Riveted maille, but if you have any doubts you must in the first instance consult your 'Master at Arms'.
The construction of this style of Maille is in the 4 in 1 pattern and is of Mild Steel wire 1.6mm in diameter, i.e. 16 gauge and wound to produce rings that are 8mm internal diameter and riveted together using dome head rivets.
Aluminum MailleAluminum Maille
This style of Maille is for those of you who demand the added authenticity of Riveted chainmail but again do not need to be period specific or keep to stringent group standards, but is mainly aimed at those of you who for physical reasons have difficulty in wearing steel maille because of the weight. Aluminum Maille is one third the weight of steel so those of you with back or leg problems or those of you who wear maille only as a part of your Living History display, this is the answer. Light and durable aluminum chainmail.
Many groups who's kit standards include Maille will accept this style of Riveted maille, but if you have any doubts you must in the first instance consult your 'Master at Arms'. Some groups have approved this maille for use on the field but again consult the 'Powers that Be'
The construction of this style of Maille is in the 4 in 1 pattern and is of Mild Steel wire 1.6mm in diameter, i.e. 16 gauge and wound to produce rings that are 8mm internal diameter and riveted together using dome head rivets.
The chainmail has a grey colour applied to give it the look of Steel.
Viking Maille and The CrusadesViking Maille and The Crusades
The perfect chainmail for the Viking Period through to the Crusades and arguably beyond, this is the Maille for you.
From examples known, researchers say that maille of these periods were predominantly constructed in a similar way, i.e. Flattened or partially flattened rings in alternating rows of riveted and solid punched rings and closed using dome head rivets.
This subject is wide open but we feel that GDFB maille gives a reasonable representation of the Maille from these periods within the constraints of production techniques against cost to bring you the best and most affordable maille of the day.
The construction of this style of Maille is in the 4 in 1 pattern and is of Mild Steel wire 1.2mm in diameter, i.e. 18 gauge and wound and flattened to produce rings that are 8mm internal diameter and riveted together using dome head rivets with alternating rows of solid punched rings.
The Maille is supplied burnished to give a dark grey to black finish.
Medieval and High Medieval MailleMedieval and High Medieval Maille
GDFB High quallity wedge riveted chainmail. From the Late 14th Century and arguably slightly earlier, the 'Wedge Rivet' reared it's cute little head and until later in the Medieval period would have been constructed using flattened or partially flattened rings in alternating rows of riveted and solid punched rings and closed wedge rivets.
Later in the period the construction would have been all riveted rings without the solid punched rings but who is to say that that the alternating style would not still have been worn, so you will find both styles in this section.
Again this subject is wide open but we feel that GDFB maille gives a reasonable representation of the Maille from these periods within the constraints of production techniques against cost to bring you the best and most affordable maille of the day.
The construction of this style of Maille is in the 4 in 1 pattern and is of Mild Steel wire 1.2mm in diameter, i.e. 18 gauge and wound and flattened to produce rings that are 8mm internal diameter and riveted together using wedge rivets with alternating rows of solid punched rings and alternativly all rivited ring construction.
The Maille is supplied burnished to give a dark grey to black finish.
Posh MaillePosh Maille
Well here we go. Who ever you are, who ever you portray and which ever period you cover, be it Roman through to now I'm sure you will find good reason to argue that an example of this style of Maille was found, giving it provinance in your period. It is the smallest diameter chainmail made commercially today by GDFB.
People drool when they see this.
6mm internal diameter 1.1mm wire alternating riveted and solid 1mm square punched rings.
This chainmail was developed for the Roman period but many people have told us that it will suit most periods so that is what we have to believe and because of that we will produce anything in this style but most items will be made to order and the lead times are around 4 to 5 months. Through time as we gauge the popularity of certain items we will stock those but shirts will be mainly to order.
