Because of the difference in the shape of the individuals skull it is suggested that a 5cm band of sheep skin can be fixed to the inside of the leather liner to give a snug fit and afford a more cusioning effect during combat. It originates from the 8th century and is of great archeological significance, since so few helmets were found in this area.
