Great helmet, battle-ready, circa 1380 Battle-ready reconstruction of a late-medieval pot helmet. The "Great Helmet" was often worn over a smaller, lighter helmet (for example secret helmet). These helmets were common throughout Europe in the middle ages, and numerous contemporary images, miniatures and originals found in Germany, Flanders, England, Italy, Swizerland, Austria, etc. prove the popularity of this helmet type. They were used during the famous battles of Crecy (1346) and Poitiers (1356). Details - includes a very comfortable padded inlay - internal circumference approx 66 cm - material: 2 mm steel, leather - finish: polished and oiled - weight: approx. 4.4 kg Please note that the measurements given in the helmet size choices are the internal circumferences. therefor when assesing the size you require you should measure whilst wearing any items you will use with the helmet e.g. an arming cap and or a maille coif. Because of the difference in the shape of the individuals skull it is suggested that a 5cm band of sheep skin can be fixed to the inside of the leather liner to give a snug fit and afford a more cusioning effect during combat. |
