Cow Mouth Shoes
The Cow-mouth shoe appeared in the early 16th century and were worn by both men and women. During the time this type of shoes became a typical part of the clothing of the Landsknechts. The shoes shape is characterised by a flat body and a wide tip, and is decorated with elliptical recesses similar to the slotted clothing the Landsknechts are known for. A strap with a buckle across the instep closes the shoe. The sole has been fitted and fixed with stable nails.
