Medieval Great Helm with Brass Fittings and Leather Liner, 14th C., 1.6 mm Steel

A reconstruction of a Late Medieval pot helmet (also called a bucket helmet or barrel helmet), as it was worn in the 14th century.

The so-called great helmet (in English great helmet or great heaume) was often worn over a smaller, lighter helmet (e.g. a Secret Helm). It was widespread throughout Central Europe in the Middle Ages, and numerous contemporary images, miniatures and finds from Germany, Flanders, England, Italy, Switzerland, Austria, etc. prove the popularity of this type of helmet. These helmets appeared at the time of the Crusades in the late 12th / early 13th century and also used by knights well into the 14th century.

This replica is made of 1.6 mm (16 gauge) carbon steel and has a cross-shaped brass application on the front. The individual parts of the knight's helmet are all fastened to one another by steel rivets. The viewing slits are each approx. 15 cm long, 1.3 cm wide and the many recesses on the lower half ensure the necessary air circulation.

The inside is blackened and provided with a riveted, adjustable leather inlay. The chinstrap made of brown, 2 mm thick leather is fitted with a brass buckle (with an antique finish).
