Greek Sword Type Alfedena,Bone Grip, Blade Length 65cm, Weight 1.2kg
Greek Sword, Alfedena Type, With Bone Grip
This sword type features a strongly tapering blade and is represented on many ancient Greek ceramics,it was also used by the Italic soldiers in the 5th and 6th century B.C.
Our replica is based on an artefact discovered in Alfedena, in the Italian Abruzzi region. This city was founded by the Samnites and was a strategic settlement of the Carecini tribe and was later conquered by the Romans in 298 B.C.
The scabbard features a substantial chape and is fitted with a rectangular, openwork-patterned upper band which fully encases the sword's guard and is quite eye catching. Such a sword can be found on the tomb statue of the Italic "Capestrano Warrior”.
