Around the end of the 12th Century weapons and armour of the Normans had intermixed with those used in Southern Europe. This Italo-Norman helmet is one example, and it is modelled after a wall painting in the church of Santi Giovanni e Paolo in Spoleto, Italy, which was painted around 1170AD.

This type of helmet was usually worn together with a chain mail coif. The helmet is made of 1.6mm sheet steel and has a comfortable liner from leather with a chin strap.
