Multiple slits for a snug fit

Medieval Velvet Jacket Griselda Black or Green

This velvet jacket with a close-fitting cut is lined with light cotton fabric. All of the seams are reinforced with cotton ribbon and the added bottom hem has multiple slits for a snug fit that is particularly flattering to the hips.

The jacket has laces (at the centre front, side seams, crook of the arm and the shoulders) which allow for an individual, custom-fit adjustment to the body. The sleeves are fully detachable – just untie the top cords and the jacket transforms into a bodice or corsage. It is recommended opening the centre front lacing only, so that it can just be slipped on and laced up.

Owing to its design and cut, this jacket can be historically assigned to the late Middle Ages. It pairs equally well with a dress or with a flared skirt and blouse.

Velvet took its rise in the 14th century Mediterranean and was predominantly woven in Italy. Velvet garments were luxury items, not only due to the complexity of the craftsmanship involved in producing them, but also to the fact that the fabric was originally made out of silk. Velvet was a very popular textile in Burgundian fashion during the Renaissance period.

Material: 100% cotton

Care instructions:

Cotton velvet should not be machine washed to prevent irreversible creasing. Ironing should also be avoided at all costs, as to do so will crush the pile. To remove light stains, use a clothes brush to gently brush the stained area in the direction of the nap. For larger stains, it is advisable to have the jacket dry-cleaned by a professional.
